Chandigarh cracks down on loud music venues

Chandigarh to enforce strict measures on venues playing loud music, disturbing law and order

The Chandigarh home department is taking strict actions to maintain law and order by enforcing the Controlling of Places of Public Amusement policy, which was introduced in 2016. The UT administration is targeting places of public amusement, such as discotheques, pool cafes, virtual reality parlors, and bowling alleys, that play loud music or cause frequent disturbances in their surroundings.

Meeting to regulate amusement places

A meeting was held under the chairmanship of the district magistrate to address these concerns. Representatives from various departments, including the municipal corporation, police, health services, estate office, excise and taxation, and labor, attended this meeting. The focus was on regulating venues where music, dancing, food, and alcohol are offered for commercial purposes.

Survey and compliance

The senior superintendent of police, health services director, excise and taxation commissioner, and labor commissioner have been tasked with conducting a survey to identify all places of public amusement operating in Chandigarh. They are to submit their findings to the district magistrate's office within 15 days. Following this, the deputy commissioner will notify these establishments to obtain the necessary permission certificates within 30 days. Places that fail to comply will be ordered to cease operations until they meet the required regulations.
